Red Oak Troubadours
Portuguese Folk music with a Dutch accent and cowboy attitude! The partnership between the Utrecht based Red Oak Troubadours and the Portuguese Folk multi instrumentalist Isabel Martinez takes inspiration from the traditional music of the Portuguese landscapes and rearranges it in a unique way that blends traditional and modern elements.
Going from heartfelt moments of melancholic acapella singing to powerful uptempo medieval melodies exploding out of bagpipes, passing by psychedelic textures echoing out of a delay drenched mandolin, the show takes the audience on a captivating and evocative journey. While still staying true to the essence of the traditional Portuguese songs, the Troubadours reinterpret them in a way where the trio’s musical influences still shine through, being complemented by Isabel’s talent and versatility.
Throughout the show Isabel skillfully jumps from different percussions to flutes or to bagpipes, while still singing beautiful harmonies and playing a diversity of traditional folk instruments (including sea shells!). The music is complemented by stories about the songs and a message of internal revolution and peaceful uproar! Binding it all together, an atmosphere of friendship and complicity between the musicians quickly becomes contagious to the audience creating the perfect environment for a positive and uplifting celebration.
